Wayne Gretzkys return to the NHL has been widely speculated on over the past few years and the rumour mill always connects Gretzky to the Toronto Maple Leafs. However, sources say Gretzky and Tim Leiweke, the newly hired president and CEO of Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment, have had several conversations in recent weeks about Gretzky joining MLSE in an executive capacity. Its unclear as to why discussions broke down, but sources say both sides agreed to put things on hold and may revisit the possibility down the road. Gretzkys role was not determined. Leiweke was hired by Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment in April after he ended a lengthy relationship as chairman of the Sports and Entertainment wing of the Anschutz Entertainment Group, the parent company of the Los Angeles Kings. Leiweke has a history of making splashes when it comes to signing players and seeking out executives. He was largely responsible for bringing David Beckham to Major League Soccer with the Los Angeles Galaxy and, earlier this year, he tried to lure former Lakers and Bulls head coach Phil Jackson out of retirement to join the Raptors in a front office position. Jozy Altidore USA Jersey .ca looks back at the stories and moments that made the year memorable. Omar Gonzalez USA Jersey . After missing 20 games as a rookie a year ago, Valanciunas - like the Raptors as a whole - has been fortunate to be in good health this season. As he spoke about it, the Raptors sophomore centre scanned the room for wood to knock on. "It is disappointing because we lost today so thats the worst part of the day," said Valanciunas, who left Tuesdays game with a lower-back sprain in the third quarter, missing the rest of Torontos 118-113 overtime defeat at the hands of the Hawks. http://www.usasoccerauthority.com/. Serge Ibaka returned to the Thunder lineup from a calf injury that was supposed to sideline him for the remainder of the postseason and the results were sparkling. Chris Wondolowski Jersey . And yet as they left TD Garden amid the slush and snow of a winter storm on Thursday evening, there was a sense among the Leafs that they had finally stood toe to toe with their long-time bully, only to fall just short. This week, Martin Tylers stats and facts column looks at which players have scored the most in defeats, as well as worrying home runs... How to send your questions to Martin:Tweet @SkyFootball using the hashtag #TylersTeasers. Martins Starting StatI was at the Manchester derby on Sunday, where Manchester City scored first and lost. That hasn’t happened in the last 43 games where they’ve scored first, since a 3-2 defeat at Aston Villa in September 2013. They have won 37 and drawn six of those matches.City still haven’t won a Premier League game away in which they were losing at half time for 20 years since a 3-2 win at Blackburn in a Monday Night Football game. They were 2-1 down at half time in that game and won.We witnessed the first Manchester derby goals to be scored by Ashley Young, Marouane Fellaini and Juan Mata – but not Chris Smalling, who scored in the 3-2 Community Shield win at Wembley. This was only the second of 36 Premier League meetings to be won by the team conceding first. The last time that happened was when Manchester United came from 2-0 down (two goals scored by our expert Niall Quinn) to win 3-2 at Maine Road in November 1993.City have now lost four consecutive away games in the Premier League.for the first time in the same season since 2006 – following defeats to Liverpool, Burnley and Crystal Palace.Sergio Aguero scored twice to reach 100 goals in 158 games for Manchester City and is the fastest Man City player to reach that landmark by some distance, beating the record of Tommy Browell, who scored on his 183rd appearance in February 1927.Aguero has scored 8 goals in 8 derbies, but Wayne Rooney is still out in front with 11 derby goals in all competitions. Joe Hayes and Francis Lee are the all-time City record-holders with 10 goals each. If Aguero stays at the club then he has a great chance of catching them – and Rooney.Aguero had gone six games without a goal, equalling his worst run at City but at least he didn’t extend that run. He always does something when I’m commentating (and when I’m not…)On the run Arsenal: won their eighth in a row against Burnley Arsenal have won eight in a row, but is that unusual in the Premier League? What is the longest winning run a team has been on without winning the title? (Phil, Oxford)MARTIN SAYS: Arsenal are the first team to register eight wins in succession in the Premier League this season, so it isnt easy to achieve! In 2010/2011, Chelsea won just five games in a row on two separate runs and that was the longest winning streak of anyone in the top flight that season. Thats the Premier League season with the shortest longest winning run - if you know what I mean!Arsenal hold the record for the most consecutive wins in Premier League history when they won 14 in a row between February and August 2002.As for the longest runs by teams who didn’t win the title, that (perhaps unwanted) accolade goes to Liverpool, who stormed to 11 victories in a row last season on their way to finishing second behind Manchester City.Perhaps more incredible is Liverpool’s season in 2005/06, when they recorded two separate runs of 10 and nine wins in a row, yet Chelsea stormed to the title and Liverpool finished third. Manchester United, who came second, also recorded nine straight wins in that remarkable season.Chelsea themselves are the only other team to win more games in a row than Arsenal have and not win the title, as they registered a perfect nine from nine in 2006/07, finishing six points behind champions Manchester United. It’s worth mentioning that Manchester United are on six wins in a row – but their next game is away to Chelsea, live on Sky Sports’ Saturday Night Football at 4.45pm. NOW TV Dont miss Chelsea v Man Utd. Watch it without a contract on NOW TV with a Sky Sports Day Pass.dddddddddddd. Pointless strikes Sergio Aguero: scored twice in defeat Sergio Aguero scored twice in defeat yesterday – who’s scored the most “meaningless” goals (i.e. scored in defeat) this season? (Andy, Surrey)MARTIN SAYS: Charlie Austin has been on prolific form this season for QPR, netting 17 Premier League goals so far this term, but he tops the list of goals scored in defeats with six.Next up is Wilfried Bony who, before moving to Manchester City, scored four goals in Swansea losses. One of them, incidentally, was against his current club as he put Garry Monk’s men in front at the Etihad Stadium in November, before Stevan Jovetic and Yaya Toure won the points for City.Burnley’s Danny Ings and Everton’s Kevin Mirallas have scored three times and been on the losing side, while Sergio Aguero’s double at Old Trafford means he is one of 13 players on two goals – Saido Berahino, Ander Herrera and Harry Kane are among the other names on that list.Broken homes QPR: have lost six home games in a row Hi Martin, QPR have lost six home league games in a row. What’s the worst run and where does that rank? #TylersTeasers (Dan, Southampton)MARTIN SAYS: Four teams have gone on worse runs at home than QPR’s current spell, although Sunderland’s record of 10 in succession was split over two seasons. They lost eight in a row as they were relegated in 2002/03 before they lost their first two home games on their return to the Premier League in 2005/06.Wolves lost nine on the bounce at Molineux in 2011/12 as they finished bottom of the pile, while Bolton were another to spread a bad home run over two seasons, losing their last two of the 2010/11 before extending that run to a total of seven at the start of the following campaign, which saw them go down at the end of the season.Derby are the only other side to lose more home Premier League games in succession than QPR have, tasting defeat on their own doorstep seven times in a row in a season which saw them earn a record-low points haul of 11.It’s not all doom and gloom for Chris Ramsey’s men, though. Wigan lost six on the spin at home in 2006/07 and they ended up finishing 17th in the table to preserve their top-flight status. QPR will be hoping to improve their form and stop this run in their two remaining home games against West Ham and Newcastle.Passing trend Jose Mourinho: Chelseas passing was a little bit off Chelsea only completed 70 per cent of their passes at QPR – what’s the record for the worst pass completion rate in victory this season? (Sarah, Milton Keynes)MARTIN SAYS: It certainly wasn’t a vintage performance at Loftus Road, but Chelsea took the points with their only shot on target of the game. Their pass completion rate pales into comparison with some other winning teams in the Premier League this season, though.Burnley completed just 50 per cent of their passes against Aston Villa in November, but a quick-fire Danny Ings double gave Sean Dyche’s men a 2-1 win at Villa Park.West Ham, meanwhile, have been on both sides of such a result. Morgan Amalfitano and Diafra Sakho scored as the Hammers beat Man City 2-1 back in October, and they completed just 60 per cent of their passes. They were on the receiving end when Crystal Palace also registered a completion rate of 60 per cent, but that didn’t stop the Eagles winning 3-1 at Upton Park. ' ' '
